if you’re updated on internet memes then you must be familiar with the “date a girl” fever that’s going around. it all started with Charles Warnke’s article, You Should Date An Illiterate Girl, which is a beautiful piece of prose written by a guy who has had his heart broken by a girl who reads. “A girl who reads lays claim to a vocabulary that distinguishes between the specious and soulless rhetoric of someone who cannot love her, and the inarticulate desperation of someone who loves her too much.”

this triggered a response, Date A Girl Who Reads.  i am unsure if the author of this “response” actually got the point of the original article but in my opinion it doesn’t come close at all. the original article is actually a compliment to girls who read since “[A girl who reads] will accept nothing less than passion, and perfection, and a life worthy of being storied.” the girl the author was dating obviously walked out on him and it is safe to assume that he is bitter and hurt. “So out with you, girl who reads. Take the next southbound train and take your Hemingway with you. I hate you. I really, really, really hate you.”

throughout the past few weeks, a bunch of these articles have been popping up online. here’s what i found so far: Date A Girl Who Blogs, Date A Girl Who Runs, Date A Girl Who Takes Photographs and Date A Girl Who Loves Music. a funny thought that entered my mind after reading each of these articles is, hey! that’s me! i blog (hello?!). i love taking pictures, not lately though because i’ve been uninspired. i love music so much that if you ask me what i couldn’t live without, music would be it. i run albeit only when i’m chasing a frisbee disc or marking a girl who is chasing a disc. and most importantly i read. so i guess to summarize what people are saying online, date me! sorry for the shameless plugging guys but it’s my blog, after all.

i, myself, would like to date a guy who reads, runs, writes, takes photographs and loves music. if you know someone who fits that criteria and is single (very important as well!) then please send him my way. 😛

i have been sadly remiss in writing this year. 10 posts for the year so far. how pathetic is that? *sigh* i haven’t been taking as many pictures as well which is pretty sad since i’ve traveled more this year than any other year. *sigh* i am super mega uninspired right now. i’m in this weird funk and i don’t know how to snap out of it.

thank heavens for micro-blogging though. i became active again on twitter early june and i’ve been pretty faithful in keeping my followers posted on the mundane stuff in my life.

there are around 5 drafts in my queue waiting to be finished but instead i find myself playing bejeweled blitz or zuma blitz on facebook. i’m writing this post now because i’m waiting for my lives to be restored so i can play zuma blitz again. haha!

grabe… inspiration, where art thou? i seriously need my mojo back!

yes, i do realize we are already towards the end of the 3rd week of January, maybe a bit too late to be waving 2009 goodbye but you can’t blame a girl for being busy. and i can’t really welcome 2010 without saying goodbye to 2009 first. so here goes… (and yes, i just copied this from last year.

DRINKING BUDDIES OF THE YEAR?

nina, mela & the frenchies. partying and dancing till the wee hours in the morning were a big part of my 2009. nothing makes me feel older than going to a club nowadays, so many kids. but when i’m with these people, i really couldn’t care less about anyone else.

YOUR SONG FOR 2009

Mr. Brightside – The Killers

this song came out earlier i do realize that but i grew to love it so much in 2009. here’s a pic of me and nina looking at each other and singing… it was only a kiss! it was only a kiss!… during the spirits ’09 party. 😉

DATE AWARD

nina – my constant companion, partner-in-crime and my other half. we spend so much time in each other’s company that people constantly ask if we live together. hahaha!

HIGH POINT OF THE YEAR?

watching Wicked at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco!

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I’m through with playing by the rules
Of someone else’s game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It’s time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes: and leap!

 ~ Defying Gravity

LOW POINT OF THE YEAR?

i guess that harrowing experience with Ondoy.

BEST HOLIDAY

i really thought i’d only have the 3-week US vacation as my only trip for 2009 since i would be consuming all my vacation leaves for it. luckily i was still able to fit some more trips specifically 2 trips to boracay and 1 to iligan. i was also booked for a bacolod trip but wasn’t able to go because of work.

if i have to choose which one was most memorable i would say it was the boracay halloween trip. i met a bunch of new friends and bonded with both mela & nina. it was a crazy and yet laidback fun trip. we plan to go there every halloween from now on. 😉

BEST MOVIE FOR 2009

500 Days of Summer. for this…

Glee was also one of the biggest highlights of 2009 for me. love love love it!

VALENTINE’S DAY DATE

i really can’t remember. probably went out with nina to some club or somewhere. but yeah, my love life for 2009 was zip, zilch, zero, nada.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR?

  • Bangkok Hat 2010!!!
  • Planned trips to Boracay, Siargao, Palawan, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. yey!
  • Rekindle my love affair with the piano.
  • Go on beach trips as much as I can.
  • Another tattoo.
  • Write more.

Hmm…. Yan lang maisip ko for now. Will try to make my 2010 list early next year. ;)

MOST STUPID IDEA WHEN DRUNK

ahhh… yes… sorry can’t really broadcast that out. 😛

MOST MEMORABLE FIRSTS

Oh, I have a few of these!

  • something to do with the most stupid idea while drunk category.
  • river tubing in cagayan de oro. we capsized in the “washing machine”, that was an experience.
  • surfing. i was able to stand on the board but it’s not for me. next time i’ll just watch while my friends surf.

BIGGEST CHANGE OF THE YEAR

not getting drunk at parties anymore. after that awful work party experience i had in 2008, i’ve actually learned to stop drinking at a certain point. i’m proud to say that i got wasted only once in 2009. in my opinion, a big big improvement from 2008. 😉

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION

Live. Love. Learn. 😉

GENERAL FEELING FOR 2010

Be gentle, 2010! :)

this post has been in my drafts queue for quite a while now. however, after watching the latest episodes of So You Think You Can Dance i knew i had to post this.

i’m one of those girls who has taken ballet when she was young. i think most little girls go through their ballerina phase. i stopped after one year though, because i didn’t like my teacher. i do not regret my decision to stop ballet because it really wasn’t my thing but whenever i see really talented dancers do their thing, i am filled with a tinge of envy. there is a beauty when a person can use their body to express how they feel.

the reason i decided to go ahead and post this was because i was really touched by one of the dances from the latest performance episode of this season, namely,

Kupono and Kayla, Contemporary
Choreography: Mia Michaels
Music: Gravity by Sara Bareilles

yeah, i gasped when the song started playing and i was tearing up to the end of the performance.

the rest are not listed in any order at all. i remember getting goosebumps in all of them though. i haven’t really watched all of the previous seasons of SYTYCD. this is the first season that i’m watching from start to end. the next time i go to quiapo, i’ll probably get the earlier seasons so i can get more of my dancing fix. 🙂

Allison and Ivan, Contemporary
Choreographer: Tyce Diorio
Music: Why by Annie Lennox

Jonathan and Karla, Contemporary
Choreography: Stacey Tookey
Music: Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard and Marketa Inglova

Chelsea and Mark, Lyrical
Choreographer: Napoleon and Tabitha
Music: Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis

Lacey and Kameron, Contemporary
Choreographer: Mia Michaels
Music: Dancing by Elise

the last is a dance Joshua and Katee did but there isn’t a youtube video i could find. 😦 here’s another “complete” video featuring two different dancers…
Ben Susak and Pam Chu Song
Choreographer: Wade Robson
Music: Slow Dancing in a Burning Room by John Mayer

oh, here it is but without music. boo youtube boo!!!

Joshua and Katee, Lyrical

notice how many of the dances are contemporary. i really have no idea what that genre of dance it but i love it! a friend once said, if it’s something we can’t categorize then it’s probably contemporary! hahaha!

edit: i forgot to add this group routine which i found so so so sexy!!!
Choreographer: Tabitha and Napoleon
Music: Calle Ocho by Pitbull

yesterday was the first day of the all-mens and all-womens league, Malakas & Maganda. even though we were thoroughly exhausted after playing 3 games, 2 of which were back-to-back, we still found time to do this…

malakasmaganda-1

bwahahahaha! it’s supposed to be the T3 cheer but none of the boys were really buying it but we decided to do it anyway.

yep, this is never going to fail to make me smile. i really do love my friends!

*thanks for the .gif file claire! 😉

i’m currently obsessed with…

... victoria's secret lingerie (i really want to buy some and have them shipped here)
... tumblr-ing
... hula-hooping
... learning my old piano pieces again
... expensive stuff i can't afford
... still being kissed ala north & south

That’s the closest to my idea of love: watching the skyline, making out, making mistakes, making believe desire means it’s with somebody else, then breaking up, and, if we’re lucky, forgiveness that comes right before take-off. There, I’ve said it. What more can one want? A lover who loves me as much as the rain. Rain, and, from the opening credits to the closing heart, Gershwin.
