The Little Mermaid (1989)

Tagline: Somewhere under the sea and beyond your imagination is an adventure in fantasy.

what would i give to live where you are?
what would i pay to stay here beside you?
what would i do to see you smiling at me?

normally, it’s the beauty and the beast that makes it to countdowns such as these. but the little mermaid is still my favorite fairytale.

but do you know the real fairytale ending? the little mermaid dies. (i use this word lightly because it’s a bit hard to explain what really happens to her) when the prince wakes up at a convent he thinks another girl,  a princess in that convent, saved him. so he falls in love with the princess and not the little mermaid. the sea witch tells the little mermaid that she can become a mermaid again if she kills the prince by piercing a dagger through his heart. she couldn’t do it, so throws herself to the sea and becomes part of the daughters of the air, beings who by doing good deeds for three hundred years earn an immortal soul.

it’s a beautiful story of love and sacrifice. i wish they make it into a movie.

Lady and the Tramp (1955)
